Irreverence is one of those things that made the internet fun back in the day and still adds shine and polish to a somewhat stodgy medium. Producing irreverent content for your web site promotion may be just what you need. I’m not talking about foolish or crass low brow humor here, no I’m talking about taking a funny look at your industry and creating and producing material like audio and video that can add edge to your message.
Look around just for a moment at what others are doing and you will see what not to do. The stale horn blowing of social networks won’t give you much in the way of new ideas and really that stream of consciousness will not inspire any ideas other then soggy white bread in a bowl retreaded musings. What is new is what you and your team can create not what the shuffling mass lines of conformity tell you is cutting edge.
Think about it, cutting edge (done to death) or bleeding edge ( burnt out). Do you really want to follow the leader in your marketing campaign? Do you really want to stand in front of the client and give one more carbon copy me too presentation? I’m not going to answer that last question for you with some stock ” no of course you don’t,” instead I’m going to throw out two words. (no edge) think about that and then throw it away, jump in and create something the other bland marketing types won’t even understand.
Does it take brains to be irreverent? Of course it does and over at brainz.org they have thrown pies into the face of social networking. Check out their work for a smile and a boost to your day. They call it unscientific I call it spot-on. The pie charts ponder the question, who really uses social media?
